What does the future hold for papermakers?

Anu Ahola, SVP Strategy Development, UPM Paper Business Group

With sales of over €10 billion and production plants in 16 countries employing 24,000 people worldwide, UPM is leading the way in creating new growth opportunities based on continuous product development and innovation in forest fibre products as it strives to strengthen competitiveness, create new markets and increase shareholder value. Anu Ahola will explain how UPM aims to derive optimum value from renewable and recyclable materials by combining expertise and technologies within its fibre-based, energy-related and engineered materials businesses and the impact of this on the company’s traditional customer base.

Ahola is responsible for long-term strategy development and financial planning for UPM's 7 billion EUR/a paper business. Her current focus is on European profitability and emerging markets’ growth initiatives. Ahola has a solid international experience of over 20 years in corporate and business strategy, resource allocation processes and global change implementation. Earlier in her career she worked for forest industry consulting company Jaakko Pöyry Consulting as Consultant and Principal, and for Nokia as Director of Marketing Strategy and Planning. She joined UPM in 2007 as Vice President, Strategic Planning. She has a M.Sc. (Technology) from Aalto University’s School of Engineering, and an MBA from Aalto University’s School of Business in Helsinki.
